Obi Worldphone
2015 — Packaging & Visual Design
Obi Worldphone, previously Obi Mobiles, was a Silicon Valley smartphone manufacturer founded in 2014. Obi was aimed at the emerging markets rather than very competitive developed markets. Their goal was to establish themselves as a market leader by bringing premium ID to the burgeoning budget smartphone market. Because the traditional brick and mortar phone retail was not as common in these emerging markets, they also needed a unique packaging solution that allowed customers to interact with the devices without opening the packaging. The challenge was to create a packaging architecture that could celebrate the ID and convey the premium design, without the need to open the package and compromise the product.
